Group

Group psychotherapy often helps people address relationship issues at a more rapid pace.  In a group of 5 to 7 people, there are opportunities for group members to learn more about themselves through reactions and responses group members have toward each other and the leader.  This learning and practicing of different ways of communicating and relating to others might be readily applicable to group members’ family, social, and work lives.  I find that group members’ anxiety about joining a psychotherapy group usually fades away as members experience support from each other and the group leader.

Many clients find a combination of individual and group therapy particularly helpful.  If you’re seeing someone currently for individual therapy, I believe it’s important for your therapist and I to discuss your treatment history, and your progress while you’re in a group.  Prior to joining a therapy group, I would meet with you at least twice for 50 minutes to learn about you and what you hope to work on within the group.
